Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFTDontea’ Mitchell-Hunter is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Savannah, GA. Dontea’ specializes in supporting Black women as they re-establish their self-identities, often after leaving abusive or toxic relationships. Many of the clients that Dontea’ works with engage in ambiguous romantic or sexual relationships that leave them feeling unfulfilled, confused, or upset. These relationships can impact their self-esteem and how they see themselves. Dontea’ empowers her clients to take control of their lives and to feel good about who they are.
Dontea’s begins working with clients by getting to know them and building strong trust and rapport. Dontea’ helps clients identify instances of authenticity and also moments when they don’t act according to how they feel, such as instances of toxic people pleasing. She creates a non-judgmental therapeutic atmosphere where clients feel comfortable talking about the shame and guilt they face every day. Dontea’ then teaches clients how to do away with these feelings and instead replace them with confident, self-compassionate emotions. Her goal is to help clients reclaim their lives and find their voice.
Dontea’ earned a Master’s degree from Valdosta University. She is passionate about working with the BIPOC community and has a relatable, empowering style in her therapy sessions. She teaches clients how to stop stressing over meeting other people’s expectations and instead live the life they want.
