Professional statement

Emily Polak is a clinical psychologist in Santa Monica who works with adults of all ages. She excels in helping clients address low self-esteem, anxiety, and relationship issues.

Emily has training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness-based therapy. Working with Emily, clients learn to observe their thoughts without judging them, become aware of their limiting beliefs, and shift to a more positive, compassionate framework. In session, Emily focuses on supporting clients in getting to know the aspects of themselves that have been causing them distress. This approach allows clients to heal their wounded parts and to learn to accept and trust themselves.

Emily's style is warm, genuine, and non-judgmental. She establishes a safe space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. She specializes in working with women in their 20s, but welcomes all who seek support, want to build personal insight, and feel better in their lives. She is poly, kink, and LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Emily graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Psychology. She earned her master’s and doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology at the University of Miami, where her research focused on the impact of gratitude and mindfulness training. Additionally, Emily received her yoga training certification in Ishta Yoga in 2002 and her certification in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy in 2015. Her approach integrates over 20 years of yoga and mindfulness practice and emphasizes the importance of awareness and non-judgment in mental health.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, doing yoga, playing Scrabble, and watching The Bachelor/Bachelorette. Emily currently offers online therapy exclusively.

Message to clients

I want you to know that life can feel easier. My intention is to meet you with empathy and curiosity, and provide a safe, caring space in which you can express yourself freely. Together we will sort through your life’s experiences, identify and overcome patterns that are holding you back, and help you achieve greater levels of clarity, self-acceptance, and contentment.

It can be hard to find a therapist who feels like a fit–someone who gets you and can offer the kind of support you need. I encourage you to reach out to learn more, and look forward to hearing from you.
