Professional statement

Dr. Jasmonae Joyriel is a licensed psychologist practicing virtually in 38 states as part of the the Psypact Interjurisdictional Compact and maintains an in-person practice in Austin, Texas. She specializes in complex trauma, sex and relationships, and professional growth and life transitions. Dr. Joyriel works with individuals and couples looking for a collaborative, engaging, and interactive approach to resolving their problems.

Dr. Joyriel works with clients who are looking to create meaningful changes, who are looking to be challenged and navigate experiences that have left them feeling paralyzed or stuck in their life. Her clients are ready to dive deep with a style of therapy that will push them to discover who they are, what needs they have, and how best to get those needs met. Therapy is not always a fun experience, but it can be a transformative and liberating experience.

Dr. Joyriel began her studies at Spelman College. She went to attend Northwestern University where she received her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Following that, she completed her PsyD in Clinical Psychology at University of Denver where she specialized in military populations and couples, with an emphasis on human sexuality and complex trauma. After working for the VA hospital system, she opened a private practice. She has been featured on several podcasts, publications and has been invited as a keynote speaker and panelist for local professional organizations. She continues to spark much needed conversations about relationships, eroticism, and living a thriving life.

Message to clients

I am most notable for starting conversations with the phrase, "Don't be afraid to fire your therapist." I want you to know it's okay if we aren't the right fit or become less of a fit over the course of our work together. At my core, I believe therapy is a place to feel empowered and find the therapist who allows you to do transformative work. Therapy is collaborative and must be customized; your history, identity, and values impact how you experience your life, your relationships, and the world. I want you to work with me if my particular lens, approach, and tools are tailored to your needs and therapeutic goals.

I think my particular style of therapy focuses on creating change and helping you discover how you need to thrive. There are many different functions for therapy, some for nurturing and holding, some for directing and be told what to do, and others to move beyond "Macgyvering" in life or merely surviving it. I believe it's okay for you to find surviving intolerable. You are allowed to want to thrive.

Let's face it, life can be really fucking hard. And lonely. I love guiding you towards the connection with your true north, learning to own your "No" and discovering your "Yes." I love watching you experience more integration between your body and mind and finally move beyond trauma, shame, and emotional paralysis. I mostly love helping you thrive. If this speaks to you, let's get started!
