Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical, LCSW-C Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsJon Abelack is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New Canaan, CT. He is passionate about giving individuals and couples the tools they need to decrease their stress. He enjoys working with those who struggle with work stress, including those who have high-performance careers. While their resumes show that they are successful, their achievement comes at the cost of their mental health, physical health, and relationships. Jon helps clients address issues of burnout, as well as guide them as they consider changing their careers. Jon also works with clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, and loss or grief.
Jon’s approach to therapy incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solutions-focused therapy, relational therapy, and coaching. He is a psychodynamic therapist who relies on a strong therapeutic trust to encourage clients to examine the ways they relate to others. He also encourages clients to seek greater insight into their motivations, instincts, and desires. Clients learn how to avoid cognitive distortions that lead to low self-esteem, difficulty being vulnerable with others, and imposter syndrome. He helps clients set achievable goals and set out the steps to help them reach these goals. Clients leave therapy with tangible coping skills to use when they are, which are especially useful in the workplace and other stress-inducing settings.
Jon earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from NYU. He has five years of experience working with clients. He previously worked in the sales and marketing space, so he knows the pressures placed on individuals in the corporate setting. His goal is to teach clients how to examine their feelings and identify the elements of their lives that give them stress, anxiety, or other negative emotions. From knowing the cause, clients can then take steps towards alleviating their stressors and feel more present in their daily lives.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Couples counseling - Addressing relationship challenges and life transitions; strengthening communication and feelings of security, desire, connection, and love
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Existential crisis & challenges - Supportive exploration of meaning and purpose in one’s life; finding one’s path in the face of existential anxiety, dread, and feelings of meaninglessness
Life transitions - Coping with difficult or impactful life changes, such as moving to a new area, relationship transitions, child rearing, or career changes; learning self-care to better manage resulting stress
Relationship issues - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating
