Professional statement

Kathy Wingfield is Licensed Mental Health Counselor who sees clients in person in Bristol Rhode Island as well as virtually. She works with adult individuals of all ages who seek to understand themselves and heal parts that keep them stuck in patterns and beliefs that no longer serve them. Many of her clients come to therapy who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues and difficulties with life transitions as well childhood trauma and attachment wounds. Kathy has extensive training and many years of experience in the realm of complex trauma that helps clients navigate through the process of healing and become the person they were meant to be. It is through this journey that clients gain mastery over their trauma and gain a sense of freedom, choice and connection to themselves and others.

Kathy is trained in Somatic Body/Mind modalities. Her approach is based in mindfulness and is process centered. In session, Kathy guides clients to turn toward their bodies which hold impulses, beliefs, memories and feelings. Through this co-created experiential process clients become clear about core beliefs that limit them in the now, release deeply held emotion/grief and begin to allow new and healthy information in a felt sense way.

Clients have expressed appreciation of her loving presence, her realness and ability to hold a safe space for whatever arises. Kathy is also a fan of using humor and playfulness to bridge connection and add lightness to the therapeutic process.

Kathy has a MA in counseling from Salve Regina. She is a certified Hakomi therapist and has completed the Sensorimotor psychotherapy training, Attachment Theory training and Hypnotherapy training. She has a love of gardening, guitar and her new passion for Pickleball.

Message to clients

I believe that the most essential ingredient of therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. We get wounded through relationship and we heal through them too. I bring my full self and all that I have learned through teachings and 23 years if experience to create a safe connection with each client. Together we can study, explore and understand core beliefs, patterns and behaviors that no longer serve you. It is by slowing down and paying attention to what’s happening in the now that creates room for new possibilities.

I continue to be inspired and renewed by client’s willingness to heal and evolve into their true nature. I still love what I do after all these years. I trust in the human spirit’s ability to grow towards the light.
