Professional statement

Kimberly DeJong is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate located in Fort Collins, CO. She works with individuals of all ages ranging from teenagers to older adults who would like to move past the anxiety or depression that holds them back from feeling present in their lives. Many of Kimberly’s clients experience low self-esteem as a result of their mental health challenges, which can lead to feeling distressed in social situations. Kimberly also helps individuals with ADHD, as well as those who need support navigating a major life transition.

Kimberly utilizes several evidence-based therapy modalities in her work with clients. She helps clients to explore their inner worlds through psychodynamic approaches, guiding clients through introspection. Clients begin to connect their experiences and beliefs to their current stressors or relationships, which can help them figure out where change needs to happen. Kimberly is also a trained yoga instructor and Reiki master. She enjoys incorporating elements of Eastern philosophy into sessions through mindfulness practices, and encourages clients to begin noticing what’s happening for them internally. Sessions might include conversations about the life’s meaning and purpose as clients to get to know themselves on a deeper level.

Kimberly earned a Master’s degree from Colorado State University. She believes in the power of positive psychology and teaches clients the tools they need to feel balanced and well. She also enjoys showing clients their own innate strength, growing their self-compassion.

Message to clients

Having your own counselor to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for one to two hours a week to support unique circumstances can be so helpful. Person centered counseling can significantly improve your ability to calmly and confidently navigate life's ups and downs. If you are experiencing heightened anxiety, depression, struggling with ADHD or low self-concept, you are in the right place. I enjoy working with clients who have experienced childhood trauma, are recovering from toxic relationships, going through or have gone through divorce, single parenting, caretakers, empaths, disabilities, queer, supportive ally of BIPOC, major or minor life transition, highly sensitive people, panic attacks, performance anxiety or post event rumination, co-dependency, career counseling and transitions.

I approach each unique person with unconditional positive regard. I enjoy learning about who you are and what makes you, you. I enter into the counseling space in my own authenticity and presence to allow a deeper therapeutic connection. I encourage you to show up just as you are, without exceptions. I truly enjoy holding space for your struggles, and at the same time, noticing your natural strength, resilience, values and insights. By creating a safe therapeutic space, we can decrease that experience of being in survival, fight, flight & freeze, and encourage a richer, more nourishing experience, which allows for deeper personal relaxation and self-trust. When this happens, you learn from and reinforce your own intuition, wisdom and guidance.
