Professional statement

Melodie works with adult women and is passionate about providing modern mental health care for the unique complexities they face. She has helped women with all kinds of concerns, including health difficulties like infertility and postpartum depression; anxiety; imposter syndrome and burnout; career navigation; loneliness and social isolation; self-esteem concerns; and lack of vitality and purpose.

Melodie specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR and ACT therapies are structured, targeted and they deliver. Melodie also infuses mindfulness and elements of Buddhist psychology into her clinical work and believes strongly in the value of this approach to the human condition. She is passionate about helping her clients improve their lives, as well as deepening openness and awareness of present moment experiences, and inviting compassion for the struggle that is to be a human in this beautiful, suffering world.

Zoom fatigue? Missing connection? Having difficulty finding time for yourself? Melodie’s clients receiving individual therapy may have the opportunity to participate in walk and talk sessions. If you are interested in walking therapy, she will assess your appropriateness for this modality during the initial consultation or intake appointment.

Melodie has worked in the field of women’s health for nearly 20 years. Counseling is not her first career (nor her second), and she brings with her a wealth of experience, having worked with many different people, in many different places. Melodie sees clients in her airy, spacious office in downtown Durham, via telehealth, or out in the wild for walk and walk.

Melodie has a particular passion for working with millennial women entering midlife and helping them navigate the great changes and transformations this time of life inevitably brings.

Message to clients

As a therapist, I strive to offer exceptional care to my clients. What does this mean for you? In our work together you can expect: flexible scheduling; quick response times between sessions; progressive, person centered patient care; flexible and individualized treatment options to fit your specific needs; support navigating your out-of-network benefits; and access to my network of other preferred healthcare referrals such as psychiatric prescribers, primary care, neurodiversity specialists, dieticians, etc.

What you can expect in our sessions: I start with clients by first seeking to understand your circumstances, what is happening for you, what you might have tried to alleviate pain and suffering, and evaluate how well these strategies have worked. We’ll hold on to the things that work. Next, we will explore your values, what makes life worth living, and what goals we might set in therapy that line up with those values. Finally, we move into the action phase, so you can start making real change and build the life you want.

I am here to empower women to break cycles of trauma and suffering, reconnect with creativity, joy and delight, and build a rich and meaningful life. My hope for you is that you finally leave your baggage behind and map out new possibilities, new futures, new dreams for yourself. I sincerely believe that therapy can help you get there. And I’m here to walk the path with you.
