Professional statement

Sidra is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been working in clinical mental health for several years. She has also been working in mental health research, program development, and evaluation for the better part of 20 years. Clients describe Sidra as insightful, empathetic, compassionate, genuine, funny, easy-going, and nonjudgmental.

Sidra is originally from the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York, and lived in South Florida, Chicago, Washington DC, and a few places in between before moving to the Pasadena area in 2002. She is the proud mother of a teenage boy and currently the guardian of Katniss the cat. Sidra has ADHD, is a cancer survivor and trauma survivor, and identifies as a relationship anarchist. She is serious about offering an affirmative practice. That means she works to empower a client with respect to their gender identity, sexuality, relationship orientation, neurodiversity, body size / shape / ability, cultural, and any other differences, rather than trying to "repair" or minimize such differences. Although she has been exposed to many religions, she does not affiliate with any. Her spirituality most closely resembles Buddhism, the principles of which often show up in therapy sessions. As the daughter of parents and grandparents with traumatic histories and/or mental illness, she has learned to channel negative experiences into resilience, and feels compelled to help others on their journey of healing and happiness.

Message to clients

Congratulations on taking the often difficult step of asking for help. I know you must be facing some challenges related to your thoughts, feelings, or behaviors right now, and I am honored to be able to help you. As you have figured out by now, "the best way out is always through."

My practice is called Sage Behavioral Health because sage is another term for wise. It does not refer to a purely intellectual or sensible form of wisdom, it includes insight and perceptiveness. It is the kind of wisdom that you cultivate when you integrate your rational / logical / reasonable mind, which is focused on thinking, and your emotional mind, which is focused on feeling. Marsha Linehan referred to the balance between your rational mind and your emotional mind as your wise mind. It is the middle path, the mind that doesn't just think or feel, but knows. It is the home of intuition and mindfulness. This is my gift to you, should you choose to accept it.
