Professional statement

Amy Pico is a Licensed Counselor in Illinois (LCPC), Georgia (LPC) and Florida (LMHC). Amy is passionate about helping individuals heal from trauma. She believes that all people are entitled to feeling comfortable in their lives and to growing their resilience. Many of Amy’s clients numb themselves to their emotions, which may result in relationship conflict, disengagement or apathy with life, or a deep feeling of dissatisfaction. Amy teaches clients how to listen to their inner selves and re-connect with the present moment.

Amy takes a trauma-informed approach to therapy. She recognizes that not all clients will be ready to talk about their painful memories or past traumatic experiences - some might not have the vocabulary to talk about their feelings and others might have dissociated with those memories. Amy considers the client’s readiness to process through those difficult emotions as she provides a therapeutic space that feels safe and secure. She practices hypnotherapy, Ego State Therapy or "parts work" and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help clients decrease their negative reactions and feelings, including anxiety. She also brings mindfulness practices into therapy sessions to teach clients how to improve their self-awareness.

Amy earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Trinity International University in 2004. She is a certified Hypnotherapist and has over 15 years of experience helping clients rebuild their lives after the impacts of trauma. Amy identifies as a neurodivergent therapist who affirms and welcomes all clients on the gender and neurodivergent spectrums.

Message to clients

Have you been looking for a more holistic approach to therapy? Do you identify the mind-body connection and want a therapist who can support you in bridging your path to wellness and healing? My approach and belief is that our thoughts and emotions inform how our body functions. Additionally, our bodies can give us signals where we may be holding trapped emotions that need to be released. If you have been looking for modern psychotherapy with an ancient approach to healing, you have come to the right place!

My style is to allow you the space to discover the healing capacity inside of you. I believe we can all heal ourselves, but often get stuck in a cloud of daily life and out of touch with our minds and bodies. My role as a therapist is one of facilitator, emotional doula, and encourager. Our initial sessions are a way for us to build an alliance where your trust in me is ultimately helping you to trust your own inner healer.

If you prefer therapy that is experientially based, non directive, and sensitive to who you are as a unique individual, our exploration will be a coming home to yourself. If you identify as being neurodivergent and are looking for a neurodivergent therapist, I am honored to work with you and alongside you!
