Amy Pico is a Licensed Counselor in Illinois (LCPC), Georgia (LPC) and Florida (LMHC). Amy is passionate about helping individuals heal from trauma. She believes that all people are entitled to feeling comfortable in their lives and to growing their resilience. Many of Amy’s clients numb themselves to their emotions, which may result in relationship conflict, disengagement or apathy with life, or a deep feeling of dissatisfaction. Amy teaches clients how to listen to their inner selves and re-connect with the present moment.
Amy takes a trauma-informed approach to therapy. She recognizes that not all clients will be ready to talk about their painful memories or past traumatic experiences - some might not have the vocabulary to talk about their feelings and others might have dissociated with those memories. Amy considers the client’s readiness to process through those difficult emotions as she provides a therapeutic space that feels safe and secure. She practices hypnotherapy, Ego State Therapy or "parts work" and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help clients decrease their negative reactions and feelings, including anxiety. She also brings mindfulness practices into therapy sessions to teach clients how to improve their self-awareness.
Amy earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Trinity International University in 2004. She is a certified Hypnotherapist and has over 10 years of experience helping clients rebuild their lives after the impacts of trauma.
