Professional statement

Barbara Gani is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Los Angeles, CA. Barbara has over a decade of experience working with clients across a wide range of settings. She enjoys working with children, teenagers, and adults as they grow their mental health and wellbeing. Barbara’s clients face overwhelming stress. This could be from school, work, relationships, responsibilities, or self-imposed pressure to live a certain way. Clients tend to reach out to Barbara when they’re tired of cruising through their weeks without feeling engaged or fulfilled. Barbara helps them refocus their attention on their own needs and wants to start to live the life that they authentically want for themselves.

Barbara utilized Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with clients to promote healthier ideas about what’s in their control and what’s outside of their control. Clients learn how to express their emotions in helpful ways and to better understand their current situations, including what led them to those points. Clients also learn how to identify cognitive distortions that aren’t helpful to them and their relationships, such as assumptions or judgments. Barbara also enjoys bringing mindfulness practices into therapy sessions and encourages clients to use these tools in their own time.

Barbara earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. She appreciates the grit and vulnerability that it takes for clients to wholeheartedly show up to therapy sessions and brings her warm and empathy with her as she supports them through difficult times. She tailors her approach for each client’s needs, offering individualized treatment specifically for that person’s mental health goals.

Message to clients

Hi there!

Thank you for visiting my page. It can be anxiety provoking to start this journey, but I am so glad you are here! Whether this is your first foray into therapy or your fifth I would love to get to know you and see if this would be a good fit. I want you to know that this process is about your goals, not my agenda. My purpose is not to tell you what to do, but to guide you towards the life you want to live. At times during this process it can feel uncertain and I'm here to create a safe and grounded space where we can weather that discomfort together.

My hope is that by working together you will better understand the values you want to live by and feel confident in your abilities to manage whatever feeling, negative thought, or life transitions come your way. Please reach out and we can schedule a free initial call to get to know one another. Looking forward to hearing from you!
