Professional statement

Carolina "Cuquis" Robledo is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate in Houston, TX. She specializes in clients who have dealt with traumas, as well who deal with life transition issues, chronic illnesses, work burnout and different anxiety issues, such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders. She also comes from an advocacy background as prior to her degree, she was a disability rights advocate where she utilized videography as a form of advocacy for her clients. As a counselor with a disability, Cuquis knows what it is like to work with marginalized communities and work with individuals to provide coping skills and techniques on how to advocate for themselves.

Cuquis utilizes an integrative approach, focusing on the clients' values and exploring mindfulness and creative approaches to help her clients get "unstuck." She utilizes somatic movements with her clients as a way to help her clients explore their potential, their emotions and how to build trust and communicate with others to become the most authentic version of themselves. Cuquis also utilizes ACT, which is a form of CBT with her clients in order to help clients find their purpose and meaning in life, as well as role-playing and parts work through Gestalt and Internal Family Systems Therapy. She is also finishing up training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) at the end of April 2023 for trauma and anxiety symptoms and is able to take clients now who would like to work using EMDR.

Cuquis received her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of St. Thomas - Houston in 2022, and a B.A. from Duke University in Psychology in 2017. She has done research on how Latin dance can be a therapeutic tool for individuals with disabilities and postpartum mothers and integrates dance with her clients.

Message to clients

I always believe creativity and the arts open up doors and avenues for people to express themselves in ways they can’t imagine. Sometimes being creative does help unlock the ability to express ourselves more freely. I like to incorporate art with my clients when appropriate, whether it be drawing or movement, to help tap into thoughts and feelings that may feel trapped. The space I create is a non-judgmental space and I promote opportunities for my clients to feel safe and their most authentic selves.

As a counselor with a disability, I am empathetic to the struggles of being in a marginalized community, especially regarding medical trauma. Being a Little Person, I also specialize in working with the Little People/dwarfism population in the Houston / TX area.

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain” by Viviane Greene. This quote reminds me of how one can move through adversity in life. I help my clients on their journey toward working through adversity in their lives. My goal with you is to help you overcome adversity, whether it's challenges in your current life or challenges within yourself. I'll be there guiding you every step of the way. I want to be there to unlock your full potential. Therapy can be challenging sometimes, and we can also have fun and be creative as we explore your potential and help you advocate for yourself.
