Professional statement

Dr. Doug Polster is a licensed clinical psychologist in West Los Angeles who works with his clients on helping them reach their full potential by removing their mental obstacles to success. He helps his clients regain control of their lives, reduce anxiety and unhelpful racing thoughts, and develop resiliency and confidence. His clients come to him for practical, tangible guidance and support on how to overcome the challenges they face.

Dr. Doug uses an evidence-based approach, combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Unlike traditional "talk therapy," where much your time may be spent discussing vague concepts, his approach is to create realistic, attainable solutions and help you identify the roadmap to achieve them. Dr. Doug works with high achievers, including business professionals, entrepreneurs, and athletes and works with individuals from their teenage years through adulthood.

Dr. Doug also works with individuals who have sustained an injury and/or have pain (e.g., ACL tear, Tommy John, concussion, muscle/ligament strain, headaches). Often, his clients have difficulty getting back to their desired level of exercise due to worry, concern, or fear of pain/re-injury. He incorporates exercise into his treatment and collaborates with other medical professionals to ensure his clients get back to their exercise regime as quickly and as safely as possible.

Dr. Doug has multiple office locations in the West LA area and tries to meet you as close to your home/work as possible to avoid the stress of LA traffic! He also offers neuropsychological testing if you have concerns about cognitive functioning, such as attention, memory, and learning.

Message to clients

My approach is supportive yet directive and I encourage my clients to gradually step out of their comfort zone. I believe the best way to ensure progress is to get comfortable being uncomfortable so that you can be comfortable again! Whether it’s stress, anxiety, racing thoughts, pain, or all of the above, my goal with every client is to help them better understand how to use their brain to their advantage so that they can achieve their goals.

Please don't hesitate to reach out and schedule a complimentary phone consultation to see if my services are right for you. I look forward to hearing from you!
