Professional statement

Kristin Harvick is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a private practice in Richardson, TX. Many of her clients have a highly sensitive temperament, which can create anxiety, struggles with emotion regulation, and sensory issues. Kristin works with kids, teens, and young adults ages 3 and up.

Therapy sessions with Kristin look very different depending on age, developmental level, and presenting concern. For young children Kristin uses Child-Centered Play Therapy. For preteens and teens Kristin uses a mix of activities, expressive arts, and talk therapy. Kristin is patient, kind, and encouraging, and believes that given the right environment and some education, each of us can find our own path to healing. In addition to exploring the root causes of struggles her clients are having, Kristin also teaches skills that will help improve emotion and sensory regulation to help clients feel better in the here and now.

Kristin has treated eating disorders at every level of care and is currently working toward her Certified Eating Disorder Specialist certification. She loves helping clients achieve a peaceful and fulfilling relationship with food and their body, regardless of diagnosis. Kristin is uniquely skilled in working with clients with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder as well as providing Emotion Focused Family Therapy to families where eating disorders are present. Kristin also has experience facilitating play therapy in the outpatient level of care in private practice and at a nonprofit for survivors of domestic violence. Kristin especially loves working with parents and providing parent education and support.

Kristin is committed to maintaining an inclusive practice where all feel welcome. While she prefers to see clients in person, virtual sessions are also available.

Specialties

Eating disorders & disordered eating - I help people develop a compassionate and trusting relationship with their body and food, whether they are struggling with some disordered eating or they meet full criteria for an eating disorder. Eating disorders served include Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, and Other Specified and Unspecified Feeding and Eating Disorders.

Anxiety - I know the struggles of battling anxiety. I help people learn skills to assist with daily coping while also working through underlying causes of anxiety to reduce symptoms long-term.

Play Therapy - I see kids ages 3+ for play therapy. Play therapy is a modality that meets kids where they are at developmentally and helps children work through big life changes, strong feelings, mental health struggles, and relationship challenges. I also provide parent support and guidance in separate sessions throughout the course of play therapy treatment.

Highly Sensitive Persons - Some people experience life in a more intense way; their feelings and even their senses might feel stronger than other people. That can be such a gift, but can also be hard to manage and can feel like a burden. I help highly sensitive persons learn how to take care of themselves in this very over-stimulating world.
