Dr. Max Maisel is a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Sherman Oaks. Dr. Maisel offers morning, daytime, evening, and weekend appointments. He sees clients in person or through teletherapy when appropriate. He specializes in using mindfulness and other evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help people heal from anxiety disorders, overwhelming stress, OCD, and depression. His approach is gentle, warm, and active in the therapy room. In addition to his private practice, he is passionate about providing training seminars and supervision to psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows.
Dr. Maisel takes an integrative approach to therapy, and will tailor the treatment to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual client. He has extensive experience utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Self-Compassion, and Interpersonal Therapy. His approach aims to help clients change their relationship with negative thinking patterns and painful emotions in the service of building a rich and meaningful life. For clients with OCD or panic disorder, treatment will typically be integrated with exposure and response prevention (ERP), which is considered the "gold standard" therapeutic modality for OCD and panic.
Dr. Maisel has worked with diverse clients across many different settings, including university counseling centers, medical clinics, and hospitals. He has trained at sites which value multiculturalism and diversity, and he acknowledges the importance of his client's intersecting identities and unique family and cultural backgrounds. He values meeting people where they are and appreciates holding space for the complexity and uncertainty in life.
