Nicholas Despoelberch is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Darien, CT who specializes in substance abuse, including opiates and alcohol, trauma, including childhood abuse, sexual abuse, and physical violence, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and couples counseling. While he has extensive experience working with young adults with a history of trauma, he sees adults across the lifespan.
Nicholas primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). He is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and uses this when working with clients with a history of trauma but only after he spends time getting to know them. His goal at the beginning of treatment is to make sure his clients are all set in terms of employment, home life, and social supports before discussing their experience(s).
Nicholas is passionate about helping adolescents and adults start on the path to recovery and healing. Prior to going into private practice, he worked at a rehab center that also focused on trauma, an intensive outpatient program, and a faith-based substance use program. His office is conveniently located near the Darien station.
