Professional statement

Hector Ventura is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Tampa Bay, FL. He works with diverse populations, with a focus on Hispanic men’s mental health. Many of Hector’s clients come in with feelings of imposter syndrome due to being 1st generation professionals. Many of his clients also deal with cultural stigma regarding mental health, because their culture views this as taboo or a sign of weakness.

Hector is particularly passionate about serving the Hispanic population. As the son of Salvadorian immigrants he can empathize with the family dynamics of immigrant families. Hector has done training with the Immigration Evaluation Institute to provide psychological evaluations for immigration cases. Hector also has advanced training in the area of diversity, equity, & inclusion with the University of South Florida.

In-terms of therapeutic approaches, Hector has done extensive training with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, which helps clients define the outcomes they want to achieve in life & the pathways to progress towards those outcomes. In session, Hector focuses on exploring the best pathways to reach your goals. This approach supports clients to overcome depression, anxiety, trauma, grief & relationship issues.

Regarding experience, Hector received his Masters of Social Work degree at The University of Texas at Arlington & has been in the field since 2015. He has gained experience at Moffitt Cancer Center, Teladoc, The Neuropsychiatric Institute & other community mental health services. This enables him to provide trauma-informed care & cultural humility to clients. Hector offers the flexibility of remote therapy sessions, and welcomes new clients to his online practice.

Message to clients

Hector’s style is down to earth & action-oriented. When a client first comes in, Hector provides a safe space where you can share your story & formulate your goals. Hector is dedicated to providing a relationship that is empathetic, down to earth, & action-oriented. Prior to starting sessions, Hector likes for clients to know that therapy is a 2-way conversation. Moreover, the onboarding process consists of completing intake forms so you can familiarize yourself with Hector's practice policies. Its also a way for him to gather information about your bio-psychosocial history.

That being said, Hector believes that therapist shouldn't push an agenda in-session or just listen the whole appointment. Therapy is an experience where you work together towards the goals that the client formulates. The same way people work with a personal trainer or coach, a therapist can provide accountability & support in your mental health journey. Hector wants his clients to know that the journey is just as important as the destination.
