Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSWShe/Her/Hers
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSWKitty McCormick is an LCSW based in Los Angeles. She works with adults of all ages, many of whom come to her to address anxiety, depression, life transitions, and other challenges. Kitty is particularly passionate about serving people with the highly sensitive person (HSP) trait. She also has advanced training in the area of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Kitty uses a client-centered approach to treatment in which she offers people a safe space to discuss their immediate concerns and long-term goals; that is, to determine where they are and where they want to be in their lives. This means that all clients receive unconditional positive regard. Her sessions also include mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approaches, and mind-body techniques which focus on meditation, breathing, and sensory-processing exercises to help clients to feel more present, grounded in their bodies, focused, and at ease.
Kitty received her MSW from the University of Southern California, and has worked for over twenty five years with individuals, families, and children in public and therapeutic school settings, community health agencies, and adults in private practice.
Outside of work, she loves taking walks, doing yoga, reading, and caring for animals, including her own.
Kitty does online therapy only.
Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) - Persons with the HSP trait have a different (though not disordered) way of processing sensory material. If the trait is not properly understood or respected, heightened feelings of overwhelm, and higher levels of anxiety and depression can be experienced.
Adjustment difficulties & disorders - Support around adapting to new and/or challenging life circumstances; skill-building for improved stress management and reduction of anxiety.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Emotion regulation - Learning how to effectively manage the ups and downs of intense emotions; developing coping skills to use in a variety of settings to calm oneself and to give an appropriate amount of space to emotions
Panic attacks / panic disorder - Brief, intense periods of overwhelming fear or anxiety
