Professional statement

You've had profound insights. You've learned healthier boundaries.

And yet...

• Saying "no" still feels harder than saying "yes."

• You still brace for danger, even when you know you're safe.

• You consciously know your worth, yet even benign criticism lands harder than it needs to.

• You know the source of your anxiety, yet it keeps cycling.

That can feel deeply frustrating after everything you've invested in your own growth.

If this sounds familiar, you're not "irrational" or "broken." It simply means that part of your mind is still organized around emotional learnings that were once deeply protective but no longer serve you today.

I'm Michael Lydon, LCSW. For the past 10 years, I've specialized in root-cause resolution, helping my clients' emotional lives catch up with the insight, strengths, and wisdom they've already cultivated.

I was invited to contribute Chapter 21 to the second edition of Unlocking the Emotional Brain by Bruce Ecker and colleagues, a leading textbook on transformational psychotherapy. The chapter follows my client "Jane" as she resolves longstanding attachment trauma through meditative attunement practices and inner child work. I hold Advanced Certifications in Coherence Therapy (an experiential schema therapy) and the Realization Process (a spiritually rooted somatic therapy). I'm also a certified trauma therapist.

My work focuses on lasting change by addressing the root causes of anxiety, trauma, low self-worth, attachment wounds, and painful relationship patterns, rather than managing symptoms indefinitely. Many clients experience meaningful shifts within 12–24 sessions without years of analysis or endlessly reliving the past. Every person's needs are unique, and we always move at a pace that feels right for you.

Clients often describe baseline shifts such as: softened emotional triggers, deeper comfort with intimacy, and generally feeling more at home in their own skin without constant effort.

I provide therapy via Zoom throughout Massachusetts and therapy-informed coaching for clients outside Massachusetts.

Message to clients

Session work begins by clarifying how you want your inner experience to be different. For example: you might want to resolve low self-worth, feel safer in your relationships, stop people-pleasing, or experience lasting relief from chronic anxiety.

The deepest healing most often - and most reliably - comes from uncovering and dissolving emotional learnings that were once adaptive but are now at odds with your adult wisdom.

Our work is collaborative. We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, following your mind-body system's natural capacity for change, rather than forcing change, overriding your feelings or spiritual bypassing.

Clients often report being surprised by their shifts. Saying "no" no longer feels tinged with guilt or an inner pressure to stay small. Criticism no longer lingers for days. Relationships carry less friction; intimacy unfolds more naturally. You spend less energy managing anxiety and more energy simply living your life. Healthy choices stop feeling like such hard work.

Whether your struggles involve trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, low self-worth, spiritual awakening, or painful relationship patterns, our goal isn't simply to help you cope more effectively. It's to help your emotional life reflect your deepest truth and truest self.

If you're wondering whether this approach might be a good fit, and what lasting change could look like in your life, I'd be happy to meet with you for a free consultation.

Specialties

Anxiety - I work with clients to move out of chronic anxiety patterns tied to early attachment trauma and low self-worth. When anxiety isn't schema-related and stems from relationship issues or other present-moment stress, I help you orient to a clear path forward that aligns with your values.

Trauma - I have helped many clients find relief from physical, sexual, and relational trauma, and have supported clients with complex attachment trauma in moving out of patterns of negative bonding.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - I have helped many clients work through dissociation, hyper-activation, and hypervigilance, symptoms of the nervous system rooted in the lingering impact of early life events.

Attachment issues - I have extensive experience helping clients discover, integrate, and work through patterns of negative bonding, codependency, and the imprints that remain from narcissistic caregiver relationships.

Mind-body connection - I help spiritually oriented adults move through "spiritual emergence" and "dark night of the soul" experiences: feeling more safe and present in the body, and working with somatic constrictions, energy blocks, "kundalini syndrome," and similar mind-body-spirit integration issues.

Somatization - Energy blocks and somatic tensions often come from suppressed emotions, commonly anger and grief. If you have a specific somatic symptom, we start there, gently tuning in until emotions or memories can surface, then work through what is held in a lingering pattern. These issues can feel especially distressing because of their seemingly mysterious nature, and they respond well to this approach.
