Professional statement

Manali Deolalkar identifies herself as a South Asian woman and a therapist of color who aims to create space for clients to support their mental health well-being. Her practice is rooted in building self-awareness, curiosity and self-compassion.

Manali supports her clients across various issues like anxiety, depression, relationship and dating issues, work related stress, college related mental health, LGBTQ+ support, and self harm. She regularly works with students, women, people of color, immigrants, tech workers, first timers in therapy, couples and adolescents. Manali works with clients to bring awareness and acceptance into their thoughts and emotions using a combination of building insight and developing coping skills to empower clients in taking care of their mental health. She regularly utilises a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy approach to help reframe some of the negative thoughts and negative self-talk that may no longer be helpful for our mental health. She also works with her clients to bring about awareness into their childhood experiences, relationship with their caregivers and attachment patterns that impact their present world. Manali aims to support her clients to accept thoughts and emotions without judgement and explore ways to cope with them using self-compassion.

As a South Asian women, Manali understands the stigma associated with seeking help in certain cultures and the courage that it takes to start caring for your mental health. Her own experience with low self esteem has motivated her to understand and work with clients to heal their critical inner voices and help them gain resilience and balance.

Message to clients

I think of myself as a thought partner with you. My first goal in therapy is to build our therapeutic relationship, so that we hold trust in going into deeper, more vulnerable parts of us. My clients describe my approach to be gentle, caring and collaborative. I take into account your life experiences, cultural background and your goals, to be able to tailor therapy that meets your need. I believe informed consent is a continuous process of therapy as we continue to find what’s best suited for you. We all have the strength to show up for ourselves when we have a safe space to feel listened to.
