Professional statement

Manali Deolalkar identifies herself as a South Asian woman and a therapist of color who aims to create space for clients to support their mental health well-being. Her practice is rooted in building self-awareness, curiosity and self-compassion.

Using a combination of relational and psychodynamic therapy, Manali supports her clients to bring about awareness into their childhood experiences, relationship with their caregivers and attachment patterns that play a role in their present world. Additionally, Manali is also trained in utilising a range of evidence based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy to bring awareness into our thoughts and emotions. Manali aims to support her clients to accept thoughts and emotions without judgement and explore ways to cope with them.

As a South Asian women, Manali understands the stigma associated with seeking help in certain cultures and the courage that it takes to start caring for your mental health. Her own experience with low self esteem has motivated her to understand and work with clients to heal their critical inner voices and help them gain resilience and balance.

Message to clients

I think of myself as a thought partner with you. My first goal in therapy is to build our therapeutic relationship, so that we hold trust in going into deeper, more vulnerable parts of us. My clients describe my approach to be gentle, caring and collaborative. I take into account your life experiences, cultural background and your goals, to be able to tailor therapy that meets your need. I believe informed consent is a continuous process of therapy as we continue to find what’s best suited for you. We all have the strength to show up for ourselves when we have a safe space to feel listened to.
