Professional statement

Menemsha is distinctly passionate about helping people form secure relationships by focusing on communication and self-esteem issues. She has historically worked with diverse populations, such as survivors of intimate partner violence and youth impacted by parental incarceration. She has recently begun to working more closely with LGBTQIA+ youth and feels particularly well suited to help people within the community navigate relationship issues, the stress of coming out, and more.

Menemsha's approach to therapy is relational and psychodynamic. Her practice is rooted in the belief that with proper support, we can transform pain into positive change. While her primary orientation is psychodynamic, she also has training in EMDR, AEDP, CBT, and mindfulness. In addition, she has found success by incorporating elements of embodied nonviolent communication, post-traumatic growth theory, and polyvagal theory.

Menemsha is a licensed social worker and also holds a master’s degree in political theory. Her worldview is informed by radical feminism and transformative justice. Her practitioner experience is complimented by 15 years of racial justice advocacy and community organizing. All of these experiences have helped her form a unique and multifaceted framework from which she has developed a holistic understanding of the connections between trauma, mental illness, and oppression.

She is currently only seeing clients remotely, but she intends to resume in-person session as soon as she is able. Her office is located at 928 Broadway in Manhattan.

Message to clients

It is such an enormous relief to find someone to talk to, someone who is really listening, and checking in to ensure you feel heard and understood. I believe that everybody deserves support, and this is my first objective as a therapist. I strive to create a compassionate therapeutic environment that fosters curiosity and self-exploration as a means for growth, and ultimately, self-love.

My job is to hear you and offer you the support you need. My hope is that you will feel free to express whatever is on your mind. From this place of trust, we will eventually work together to learn the roots of your pain and find new pathways forward.
