Professional statement

Drew Rabidoux is a therapist specializing in working with women in major transitions of their lives (divorce, break-ups, children, struggling with self care and self view, existential crisis, major career overhauls) and particularly women with Herpes. Drew believes that in major transitions in life there is an opportunity to allow it be your springboard or your trap door. Drew's ideal clients want help to get on the springboard.

Drew has been in the social service field in some capacity for over half of her life. She holds a Licensed Clinical Social Worker license in NY, CT, TX, WI and completed her bachelor and master degree in social work. She previously served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic (si, se habla Espanol) and has worked in major hospital systems with HIV/AIDS/STDs, collaborative care programs working with psychiatrists and a medical team to address client mental health issues, and most importantly... has had a very exciting life chock full of a lot of life experience of major transitions and is known as "the queen of comeback."

Drew's style is active, engaging, warm, humor infused, and goal oriented. . When clients first start therapy, she will establish a strong relationship and work to understand your history and how it impacts your current challenges. After getting to know you, Drew is not a sit and nod therapist. Drew is committed to you living your best life and honoring yourself and your desires. Drew will help you figure out the patterns that are holding you back and will call you out on your stuff. She knows you are going to therapy to improve your life, so she wants to get to work!

Message to clients

When you are at a crossroads of transition in your life, you have two choices; let it take your plane down or leap into the grit of life and come out better and wiser on the other side.

I know how a breakup, divorce, Herpes, career change (insert major life transition here) can impact you. It can bring to question everything you thought you knew about yourself and opens the opportunity to learn more. This is the sweet spot that I love helping clients with.

I didn't get my gray hair because I paid for it with money. I got this hair because I paid for it with life experience. I don't shy away from fully engaging in life, even if that sometimes brings heartache. I have two kids and two cats who are along for the ride.

I also recognize that sometimes when a woman is struggling with Herpes and totally devastated by the diagnosis and probably not receiving a lot of support from your doctor with the emotional part, you might want to process alone in the comfort of your house when you're ready. This is why I created an online, self paced course for women coping with Herpes. It provides the support you need when you need it, it's on my website.

I run a hybrid (virtual/in person) support groups for women with Herpes as well and be sure to reach out if you are interested in getting support from others.

Specialties

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Women's issues - Therapy tailored to common concerns among women; providing a safe and understanding space to address life challenges, stressors, and questions around identity as a woman

Relationship issues - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating

Women with Genital Herpes - Coping with recent diagnosis of Genital Herpes or those that have been living with genital herpes. You may feel shame, confusion, or difficulty in imagining how you will move forward in relationships after your diagnosis.

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy - Ketamine is a safe, legal medication prescribed off-label to treat a variety of mental health diagnoses, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. It has rapidly acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within hours after treatment, and lasting for several weeks after. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors and by stimulating AMPA receptors, which may help form new synaptic connections and boost mood regulating neural circuits.
