Masters of Business Administration, MBA Psychologist, PsyDDr. Alexa Michl is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in part time private practice in NYC, where she works with students and professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of themselves and facilitate meaningful changes in their lives. Many of her clients are facing existential crises that feel distressing, isolating or paralyzing. These life questions often lead to anxiety and depressive symptoms, as well as tense relationships with loved ones. Dr. Michl's goal is to help her clients alleviate suffering and individuate, i.e. find new awareness, tap into unlived potential, and transform their suffering into new, creative paths forward.
Therapy sessions with Dr. Michl are custom-tailored to her client's needs, delicately balancing deeper, insight-oriented work with skills-based approaches to reduce painful symptoms. Alexa is gentle, engaged and pragmatic. She works to help clients experience symptom relief quickly, through practical anxiety and emotional distress coping techniques, while also exploring the root cause of their suffering. She will actively collaborate with her clients to gain new insights into their relationship patterns, and free themselves from past traumatic experiences and ineffective coping strategies.
Dr. Michl also offers Jungian therapy, which focuses on deep psychological growth. Pioneered by Dr Carl Jung as a response to people's increased isolation and society's push for increased specialization, the focus is connecting to one's inner source of healing through the individuating process and becoming more whole.
Originally from Austria, Alexa grew up in France, South Africa and New York, and is fluent in French and German. As a queer woman, she offers diversity, LGBTQ & gender affirming therapy, and as an immigrant, she works with many international clients acclimating to the US. She also works part-time as a Clinical Supervisor at the Yale Initiative for LGBTQ mental health.
