Marla Newborn is a Licensed Masters Social Worker and Credentialed Alcohol Substance Abuse Counselor. Marla believes therapy is most effective when a genuine and trusting relationship develops that leads to collaboration and figuring it out together. She believes each person has more mastery over their attitude and behavior than they may realize. Marla helps her clients begin to know themselves more deeply through self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.
Marla graduated Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Anthropology. She received her master’s degree in social work from Fordham University. Marla completed the Trauma Informed Clinical Foundation Certificate Program at the University of Buffalo and completed level 1 and 2 training in EMDR at the EMDR Institute. Marla is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the EMDR International Association.
Marla specializes in supportive therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups, and serves adolescents, young adults, and older adults.

Loss, grief, and bereavement - Emotionally preparing for the anticipated passing of a loved one; managing feelings and reactions to a death or loss of significance; support during the process of healing and acceptance
Addiction - Coping with emotional discomfort and suffering; reducing or abstaining from unwanted behaviors such as unhealthy gambling or shopping
Mood disorders - Clinical depression, persistent depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders that cause disturbances in the client's mood, causing mood swings, restless sleep, and/or elevated mood
Relationship issues - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating
