Dr. Tatyana Mestechkina is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist located in the Flatiron/Union Square area in Manhattan. She has extensive expertise in the evidence-based treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), including the purely obsessional type (pure-O), anxiety disorders (including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias and panic), depressive disorders, as well as perfectionism and body image concerns. She also works with people navigating challenges related to relationships, career/school, the postpartum period and other life transitions. Dr. Mestechkina values creating a trusting environment for her clients and encourages open communication to build a strong therapeutic relationship.

Dr. Mestechkina is a cognitive behavioral therapist. She was trained by an internationally-recognized expert in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard of OCD treatment and related conditions. She also integrates approaches from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and skills from Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She works with clients to help them bring awareness to unhelpful thinking patterns, create more separation from them and make more choices in line with their goals and values. She often incorporates strategies such as mindfulness, acceptance, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, effective interpersonal communication and teaches techniques to better tolerate uncertainty. Treatments are tailored to her clients’ individual needs.

Dr. Mestechkina is passionate about empowering individuals to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. Her practice is conveniently located near the 23rd street (6/R/W/F/M lines), 14th Street Union Square (Q/N/R/W4/5/6/L lines) and PATH train stations.

Together, we can build upon your strengths and get you equipped with research supported strategies that you can use outside of sessions. I work hard to meet you where you are and to develop a plan for how to better manage difficult thoughts and feelings and live a more values based life.


Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Body-image issues - Coping with negative beliefs and feelings of shame about one’s appearance; building skills to manage distressing situations and thought patterns

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing through hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) - Reducing unwanted intrusive thoughts and rituals by gradually building comfort and confidence facing difficult fears, thoughts, and emotions

Perfectionism - Coping with feelings of anxiety, stress, self-criticism, and procrastination; addressing unrealistic expectations of one’s self and negatively comparing self to others
