Professional statement

Dr. Laura Baur is an adult psychiatrist in Flatiron, Manhattan. She particularly enjoys working with adults in their 20s and 30s, offering the convenience of combined talk therapy and medication management for busy professionals. With a background in neuroscience, Dr. Baur brings the cutting edge of personalized medicine into her private practice.

Dr. Baur provides both pharmacologic treatment and multimodal psychotherapy, incorporating elements of psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

Dr. Baur is particularly interested in forming strong therapeutic alliances with her clients, and is very relational in style; she works hard to explore clients’ interpersonal relationships both inside and outside the therapy room. She describes her style as supportive and nurturing, and she is dedicated to incorporating evidence-based medicine into client self-discovery.

While most clients come to her office for combined therapy and medication management, Dr. Baur is available for medication consultations for clients who have a previously established therapist. She earned both her MD and her Master's degrees from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Baur completed her adult psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital and an additional research fellowship on depression and anxiety disorders at the Max-Planck Institute for psychiatry in Munich, Germany. She is currently a fellow in the White Institute’s Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy program.

Message to clients

Hi, I'm Dr. Laura Baur. I’m a psychiatrist with interests in literature review, reproductive psychiatry, and relational psychotherapy. I strive to combine evidence-based medicine with interpersonal connection and self-exploration. Explaining what the data shows can help people make informed decisions regarding their healthcare. This is especially important to the field of reproductive psychiatry.
In addition to scientific rigor, I also value forging a strong therapeutic alliance. I take a relational approach to psychotherapy. This explores interpersonal relationships, including the one between the therapist and the patient. Within this framework, I also incorporate modern dynamic, interpersonal, CBT, and DBT techniques to best suit your needs.
My therapy office is a supportive and nurturing environment where people can get help that they need and find out more about themselves. I look forward to meeting you.
