Professional statement

Dora is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and graduate of New York University's Silver School of Social Work, where she received her Master of Social Work in 2017. She has extensive experience working with the LBTQIA+ community and supporting folks experiencing emotional, relationship and medical crises. For the past 5 years she worked at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York providing crisis intervention, abortion and pregnancy counseling, mental health evaluations for gender affirming surgeries, short term therapeutic support as well as community based referrals and resources. She has worked with a diverse population of clients, ranging in age, cultural background, racial experience and individual needs. She brings a deep sense of warmth, compassion, empathy, humor, and collaboration to every session, and hopes that she can provide a healing space in which you can learn, rest and grow.

Dora approaches therapy with an open heart and mind, using an integrated practice rooted in Trauma-Informed, Anti-Racist, and Reproductive Justice frameworks. She believes in the inherent worth and dignity of all human beings as well as the potential for growth, joy, resilience and expansion. She aims to help clients tap into the wisdom of their bodies to navigate these systems and any past or present stressors that may be impacting their quality of life or relationships.

Dora is sex/kink positive, polyamory and ethical non-monogamy competent, and supports the Health at Every Size (HAES) model in her work. She draws from several different therapy modalities, including Somatic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She does not believe that there is a “one size fits all” model to anything, especially therapeutic treatment. She utilizes her skills and training to gather and share tools that meet clients’ unique needs and take into consideration their individual identities, marginalization, and lived experience.

Message to clients

Reaching out for help is a huge and courageous first step, and I commend you for it! Some amount of suffering, stress or discomfort is unfortunately unavoidable in our society, and this can be so scary to sit with. My goal is to help you to manage these experiences, thoughts and feelings, and to challenge and acknowledge any avoidance that may be exacerbating symptoms of depression, trauma and anxiety. You are the expert on your life and body, I can support you in that, and perhaps provide a helpful perspective to welcome meaningful change. One of the most important ways for therapy to be successful is for you as the client to feel secure, supported and seen in the therapeutic relationship. I hope you can feel empowered to find the best therapist fit for you, and I'm looking forward to connecting!
