Dr. Franklin A. Porter is a Clinical Psychologist on the Upper West Side of Manhattan who specializes in relationships, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues. Dr. Porter has particular expertise in working with individuals who are navigating infidelity. He also has expertise in psychological and educational assessment (testing) and supervises graduate students in these areas. He has been certified as an expert witness in psychological in all five boroughs.

While Dr. Porter’s treatment approach is grounded in Psychoanalytical Therapy, he utilizes an eclectic approach, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to educate clients on their symptoms and help them address negative behaviors and thought patterns. He’ll then spend time digging deep to help his clients better understand how past experiences have influenced who they are today. Ultimately, Dr. Porter works with his clients to determine the most effective treatment modalities for their needs and goals.

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Relationships - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating

Infidelity - Helping couples work through feelings of betrayal and rebuild trust following emotional or physical intimacy with an individual(s) outside of the relationship, when the assumption of monogamy is present

Self-esteem - Cultivating self-compassion, assertiveness, and confidence; developing ways to reduce suffering, anxiety, social withdrawal, and self-neglect

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
