Professional statement

Julia Judge is a Licensed Master of Social Work located in New York, NY. She helps adults and adolescents who feel stuck or at a crossroads in life, whether professionally, interpersonally, or creatively. She also welcomes those who simply know that something has felt “off” for some time. Julia enjoys supporting patients through a wide range of stressors and life transitions. She specializes in anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma. Her style is warm and nonjudgmental.

Julia’s approach to therapy draws from psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theories, which encourage patients to develop a stance of curiosity about their inner worlds. This work fosters insight into current feelings based on closely held beliefs, which largely come from early experiences and relationships. Julia helps patients make connections between past and present, supporting the exploration of mind as well as body.

Julia graduated with honors from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She has worked in diverse outpatient and agency settings with patients experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including complex trauma, eating disorders, chronic pain, relationship struggles, and identity confusion. She is currently a fellow at the Contemporary Freudian Society and studies the treatment of eating disorders at CPPNJ.

Julia is available to see patients in-person near Union Square as well as via telehealth.

Message to clients

As a patient of psychoanalysis, I have experience from the other side of the couch, which gives me an appreciation for the many feelings that come with reaching out for help. And, I have also witnessed firsthand how life-changing this work can be.

I am guided by the belief that each person contains inherent strengths and knowledge, and that a primary goal of treatment is to allow for the expression of this unique experience. In our work together, we will move between past and present to understand what it’s like to be you. We will look carefully at your struggles, as well as how you love and dream. This diligent attention to your experience can result in satisfying and often surprising changes in personal, creative, and professional endeavors. In time, this knowledge of the self may also reduce symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and physical pain.

I have worked with people of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexuality, and class backgrounds, and I am attuned to the role oppression plays in my patients’ lives. I enjoy working with creatives, those undergoing life transitions, and people seeking to understand intergenerational sources of suffering. I prefer seeing patients more than once per week when possible.

I look forward to getting to know you.
