Professional statement

Jessica Mathews is a Licensed Psychotherapist based in New York, NY. She works with young adults ages 22-38 looking overcome feelings of anxiety, self-doubt, past trauma, and questions about their identity, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Many of her clients are high-achieving adults who are driven and have high expectations for themselves but find they are feeling overwhelmed with the weight of expectations, fears of failure and disappointing others, people-pleasing behaviors and struggle with self-confidence. Her clients frequently described themselves as over-thinkers, perfectionists, and feel paralyzed with decision-making and starting projects.

Jessica’s style is rooted in Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and she has training in many different types of therapy including Mindfulness-based approaches, Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and Attachment-based therapy.

Jessica believes the cornerstone of the therapeutic process is the working relationship between the client and therapist. Jessica offers an alliance of safety, free of judgment and “suppose too’s.” She meets her clients where they are, accepts them for who they are, and works to help get them where they want and hope to be. Jessica has an online therapy practice. She offers virtual video sessions to help make therapy more accessible. Jessica also offers her clients the first session for $70, so they can get to know her before committing to her full fee.

Message to clients

It's not you just you. As a therapist who works with young adults, I have noticed a pattern of perfectionism, pressure to perform, fear of making mistakes, people-pleasing behavior, and self-criticism. These tendencies are leading to exhaustion, anxiety, depression, self-sabotage, and burnout. Our work together will help you develop new ways of thinking, living, and relating to others. You will feel more connected to the present, yourself, others, and the life you desire to live.

I offer a free 20-minute consultation with my potential clients to find out what is bringing you to therapy, what you're looking to gain from this experience, and make sure my training and skills will be helpful. I also offer my clients the first session for $70 so you can get to know me a bit before committing to working together.
